Already-shortened URLs are now blocked

Launched a minor update today in a bid to reduce spam and malicious links from being created.

We are now blocking links from being shortened if they have already been shortened by another URL shortening service.

For example, trying to shorten a link such as one from TinyURL:

http://tinyurl.com/mykxov

Will result in an error and your short URL will not be created.

The main reason for applying this update is to prevent spammers creating "chains" of links through multiple URL shortening services.

This update has also been applied to our API.
