Since our launch in May 2009, we've seen rapid growth and expansion, along with greater recognition across the Internet and today we are pleased to announce that we are now responsible for making the Internet over 250,000 characters shorter!
Yup, QUARTER OF A MILLION CHARACTERS!!!
It took just over a month for us to reach 10k and nearly three months for us to get to 50k - getting the word out about new web sites is often tricky. That said, it was just four weeks later that we broke the 100k barrier. This time however, 250k has arrived even quicker!
The short URL that tipped us over the 250k mark was:
http://fwd4.me/mo
It started life as a 60-character long URL of 'http://www.keepbritaintidy.org/News/Default.aspx?newsID=793' and we shortened it down from 60 characters to just 17 characters, making the long URL 43 characters shorter!
We also managed to track down the owner of the link, it was created by Keep Britain Tidy. We found it on a Twitter post and got in touch with @KeepBritainTidy to find out more.
Nicola, the Web Editor at Keep Britain Tidy told us:
"I always use Fwd4Me! It makes really short URLs which are ideal for posting on Twitter where I am limited for space and can't post a long URL. I've tried other similar services but they're always a couple of characters longer and on Twitter all characters count! Not only that, the link tracking on http://fwd4.me is great too, I know exactly how popular every single link that I post on Twitter is, it's great!"
As ever, we are very grateful to you all for the support you've given us by simply using our URL shortening service (including the API, which is becoming increasingly popular).
We'll be inviting registered members of http://fwd4.me to join us in beta testing our latest features in around two weeks time, so if you've not already signed up (it's free!), register now!
Again, in case you missed it the first time round, an interesting post on exactly how our URL shortening service works behind the scenes can be found at http://fwd4.me/HowItWorks
Thank you once again for helping us become responsible for making the Internet over 250,000 character shorter!
