You can now 'Sign in via Twitter' and tweet your short URLs directly!

We've been a bit quiet on the development front recently, but with good reason.

One of the reasons is simply down to the amount of coding that's gone in to this new feature and the other reason is because we've started work on yet another cool project! (more on that at a later date)

So, on with the new feature!

For a long time now, people have been shortening URLs and posting them on Twitter. So much so that over 80% of our short URLs now appear on Twitter in one form or other. With this in mind, we thought we'd make life even easier for those of you who tweet.

If you've got a Twitter account, your life just got a whole lot easier. You'll notice on the home page of our site a brand new button marked, "Sign in with Twitter":

Clicking on the "Sign in with Twitter" button will do just that, it will sign you in to our web site, using Twitter's authentication system.

This means you no longer need to sign up and register with our site (that's if you have a Twitter acccount of course!), nor do you need to use our log-in system any more, you can now do everything via the single "Sign in with Twitter" button.

As security is at the front of everyone's minds these days (and rightly so), account access and privacy is always an issue. However, due to the (very!) secure nature of Twitter and OAuth, not only do we not store your Twitter username but we don't even need to know your Twitter username and password!

Clicking on the "Sign in with Twitter" button will present you with the following screen:

Click on "Allow" and that's it, you'll be instantly redirected back to our web site and you'll be logged in to our site, but "with Twitter".

There are a couple of advantages of this, one of being that you don't now need to remember another username / password combination for our web site, nor do you need to sign up to our web site to get your detailed click-stats on your links, simply "Sign in with Twitter".

The other advantage of signing in with Twitter becomes apparent when you shorten a URL, you'll now see a "tweet" box on the right hand side of your screen (click any image here to enlarge it):

Simply type your tweet in the box along side your short URL and click the "Tweet This!" button and that's it, your short URL will automatically be posted to your Twitter profile. You'll even see the familiar 140 character counter in the corner so you know just how long (or short) your tweet can be!

We hope you enjoy the new feature, signing in with Twitter should make your life a lot easier and remember, we do not store (or even need) your Twitter username and password.
